The eruption in 1783 along the Laki crater row was the largest in historical times. In all, 565 square kilometres of lava flowed in that eruption, creating the most extensive lava field in the world resulting from a single eruption. The volcanic highlands where this trek takes place are peaceful and seldom visited by tourists. During the trek the group stays in huts and in the very comfortable Laki Spa Hotel the first night and the last. The Laki hotel is a three star hotel built according to the most strict environmental standards, equipped with a spa section. Luggage and provisions are transported by 4x4 vehicle from hut to hut, so one only has to carry rations for the day.

Is it for me?

This is a lightweight comfortable hike over rather easy terrain, even though some parts (like walking in the lava) may require more sustained effort. You should be in good physical condition and enjoy hiking in various terrain. You will carry a daypack during the days and your luggage is transported by vehicle. The hikes are between 5-6 hours each day, and the group makes many stops for both views and meals.

Inclusions:
6 nights of accommodations (2 at hotel and 4 in huts), all meals (except breakfast day one and dinner last day), transfer from/to Reykjavik, guides, cooking gear and transfer of luggage.

Airfare, transportation from/to Reykjavik, pre or post trip accommodations, personal purchases, travel insurance, alcoholic beverages or sleeping bag & sleeping pad.

Accommodations:
Spend 2 nights in at a comfortable hotel & spa and 4 nights in simple mountain huts on a multi-share basis (several people in the same room) with shared facilities.

All meals are included from lunch on Day 1 to lunch on Day 7.

Location:
This hiking adventure takes place in south central Iceland, in the Laki Volcano region. The trip starts and ends in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where you will start the hike. You return to Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the afternoon of day 7..
