FEATURED TRIP OF THE MONTH

This trip happens to coincide with Midsummer this year!

RAVEN'S EYE HORSEBACK ADVENTURE - June 19-25, 2005 - $2090/person

If the thought of a true wilderness experience appeals to you, and you often think about finding that special place far away from traffic, noise, cell phones and the stress of daily "have-to's", this may be the adventure for you. We venture far into the remote stretches of northern Jämtland, where we ride across the mountains and valleys of a region often referred to as "Iceland of Sweden" because of its similarities to the Land of Fire and Ice. Our adventure takes us high above treeline to find lingering snowfields and hidden lakes. We probably wont see another person in these mountains for the entire week, which is exactly what we want. This is a roadless mountain area, free from trails and and human activity, except for the occassional remote camp spot. We spread out and try to ride single-file as little as possible. That's what many avid horseback riders love to hear! Three nights are spent camping in the mountains, underneath the never-ending midnight sun and three nights are spent in a fantastic Viking lodge, overlooking the waters of Jorm. The sun doesnt set at this time of year, and we'll experience the summer solstice on Midsummers Eve.

Svea Adventures contributes to the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation

We have started a membership fund with the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, so that we can help contribute to important conservation and restoration projects around Sweden. Each one of our trips has adopted a program and the money that our participants contribute goes directly to this program. This contribution is optional, but we strongly feel that it is our responsibility to help with conservation and protection of the regions that we visit. Svea Adventures matches your contribution and we contribute the same amount. An optional $10/person contribution will be added to your final payment statement. If you’d like to contribute more than $10/person, you’re more than welcome to.

Continued: The Principles of Leave No Trace

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. Leave No Trace builds awareness, appreciation and respect for our wildlands. You can read more about Leave No Trace and how to become a member by visiting www.lnt.org

Principle nr 3: Dispose of Waste Properly.

  • Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food, and litter.
  • Deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep at least 200 feet from water, camp, and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished.
  • Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products.
  • To wash your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater.

How can you make a difference?

Remember to always pack waste and all of your belongings with you. Pick up that granola bar wrapper or the small plastic bag that fell on the ground. You can do your part in helping preserve our wildlands, national parks and recreation areas by picking up after yourself and always leaving a place as you found it.

It's hard to believe that the first of our summer adventures is just 3 months away! We're looking forward to our summer season and sharing our favorite places with all of our great clients and friends. We hope that you can join us!
