Trekking with Pack Horses in Central Sweden’s Wild Mountains

Solitude, remoteness and silence is what you’ll find in the central mountain regions of Sweden. In this road-less area of wild lands, Svea Adventures offers a 6-day hiking adventure with a wilderness experience many seek but few find in today's hectic world. Hike in a small group with Icelandic horses carrying the belongings, while exploring the mountains, lakes and flora of this extraordinary region.

There are no trails here, instead you venture into the mountains and set the pace and direction of choice – climbing un-named mountain tops, fishing for trout in hidden lakes and picking fresh berries. Fall is the best time to experience this region with its changing vibrant colors, crisp air and mountain delicacies.

Enjoy two nights of wilderness camping high up in the mountains. The talented guide cooks up a feast while others relax around the camp fire. Three nights are spent in a unique Viking lodge, overlooking the waters of Jorm. With a crackling fire pit, sheepskin-covered seating arrangements and a long timber table set with hand-made pottery and iron-wrought cutlery, it’s as if the lodge is awaiting the return of savage Vikings from a day of rampage.

When we first arrived at the unique lodge, I got the feeling that this was going to be an exciting trip - and I was right on. The lodge was extremely comfortable and had all the facilities of a first rate hotel. I looked forward to the variety of our Swedish meals which were served, a neat change from our usual American diet. All in all, we had a fantastic time. We've been on a number of foreign trekking trips and this one was one of the tops,” says past guest Hank Meyer of Virginia.

Svea Adventures has one departure scheduled for August 28th, 2006. This trip is offered at $1499/person for a limited time and includes roundtrip transfers from Östersund, 5 nights of accommodations, all meals, camping equipment (except for sleeping bag), pack horses and knowledgeable guide. A minimum of 4 participants are required to confirm this trip.

Explore Sweden’s Abisko National Park on Foot

Far above the Polar Circle, northern Sweden offers an Arctic landscape with unique flora and fauna, long days of sunshine and remote mountain solitude. Svea Adventures offers a 6-day hiking adventure exploring the hidden lakes, majestic mountains and lush valleys of Abisko National Park and surroundings regions. Enjoy day excursions on foot in a small group, while searching for reindeer, learning about the indigenous Sami folk and taking in panoramic views.

Each day presents a new adventure as you head out in different directions from the mountain lodge base. The guide is a fantastic wilderness gourmet chef and cooks up delightful and flavorful lunches on the trail, with focus is on fresh products from the local area, such as reindeer, moose, salmon and smoked trout. Fantastic scenery paired with delicious gourmet in the great outdoors is a combination that is tough to beat.

Enjoy four nights at a comfortable mountain lodge with private rooms and facilities. One night is spent in a mountain cabin at 1200 meters above sea level, where you enjoy a true Scandinavian mountain hut experience after a day of great hiking.

"You provided us with great times, meeting of wonderful people also involved with your planning of the trips, tremendous food and unforgettable adventures. You couldn't have provided us with better trips. We hadn't thought that returning to Sweden would remain near the top of our list of travels but it has… We thoroughly enjoyed the hut experience. Even though the hike there was challenging, we are happy that we did it as it was worth it," says past guest Jane Hanson of Arizona.

Svea Adventures has two departures scheduled for 2006 – August 14 and September 10. These trips are offered at $2099/person for a limited time and includes a transfer from Kiruna, 5 nights of accommodations, all meals and knowledgeable guide. A minimum of 4 participants are required to confirm this trip.
